Saranac Lake’s tradition of revitalizing peoples’ health and well-being began in the late 1800’s when Dr. E.L. Trudeau recognized that the mountainous environment seemed to provide a cure for tuberculosis. The development of a pharmaceutical remedy for the disease in the 1950s brought the curing era to a close, yet Saranac Lake’s wellness movement continues. Today, a broad range of services and activities are available to help enhance your health and well-being. Whether you come to seek out a professional for one-on-one personal attention, or simply to immerse yourself in the majestic mountains, gorgeous lakes and fresh air, the Saranac Lake region is the perfect setting for your rejuvenation.

Massage & Body Work

One of the best ways to relieve sore muscles after a day of hiking, paddling, running or skiing is by receiving a massage. The following types of massage and body work are available throughout the region: Swedish, Medical, Deep Tissue, Sports, Pregnancy, Aromatherapy, Hot Stone, Reflexology, Thai, Shiatsu, Chi Nei Tsang, Zero Balancing, NeuroStructural Therapy and Cranial Sacral Therapy.

Chiropractic

Yoga

Take a class at a local studio, hire an instructor for a private session or just do it on your own. Yoga does more than enhance flexibility and strength. It is a unique way to integrate body, mind, and spirit through opening to the wisdom of your body.

Energy Work

Looking for a gentler approach to release stagnant energy, re-energize or balance the energy channels or chakras? Choose from a variety of energy work - such as Reiki, Healing Touch, Zero Balancing, NeuroStructural Therapy, and sound healing. Various practitioners can help you connect with spirit guides and teach you techniques to be more mindful.

Movement Therapies

Originally a Chinese martial art, Tai Chi involves body movements that are slow and gentile, performed with deep breathing and meditation. Also available are Chi-Walking, African dance and Capoeira.

Soul Work

The Adirondack mountains are often referred to as “God’s country.” So feed the soul and foster community by participating in a Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Jehova’s Witness, Jewish, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Quaker, Seventh Day Adventist or Unitarian service. During the summer season, some faiths celebrate services outdoors.
