You'll find brookies and rainbows in Horseshoe Pond. This 85-acre lake features 2.5 miles of shoreline shaped, not surprisingly, like a horseshoe. It's located in the Saranac Wild Forest and you'll have to hike it in; you can take the trail from the Fish Creek Pond campground on the western shore, or come in from the northeast from Follensby Clear Pond.
One thing you won't have to carry - and shouldn't - is bait. Because of the 1990 reclamation project to reintroduce trout, the use or possession of baitfish is prohibited. There are several primitive campsites on the pond available on a first-come basis.
