ADIRONDACK BIKING

Bring your bike (or rent one from an area bike shop) and explore some of the most exciting and scenic cycling country in the Northeast. The region's abundance of quiet country roads and rolling terrain make it ideal for exploring at your own pace. Saranac Lake is the heart of cycling in the Adirondacks. www.bikeadirondacks.org

Ride for Research uses scenic Saranac Lake as the beginning of a bike tour in June that benefits research. The 2004 ride will take place June 23-27, from Saranac Lake to Moravia, New York. It wil cover 266 miles in four days, passing from the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains through the St. Lawrence Valley into the heart of the Finger Lakes of New York State.

ROAD BIKE RIDES in the area range from leisurely rambles through the periphery of the village, through the 18-mile Paul Smiths Loop, the 22-mile Forest Home Loop, and the 34-mile North Branch Loop, all the way up to the 70-mile Silver Lake Loop. Check with PLACID PLANET BICYCLES: for more information about road loops. Their web site has descriptions of road loops.

MOUNTAIN BIKE ROUTES offer invigorating excursions for riders of all abilities. The Placid Planet Web Site has descriptions of some Mt. Bike Trails, check it out.

Beginners will enjoy the Bloomingdale Bog Trail, just north of the village, the Trombley Landing or Stony Creek Ponds - Coreys Road routes, just south of Upper Saranac Lake, or the Keese Mills - Blue Mountain Road, that begins at Paul Smiths.

Intermediate riders can explore the Otter Hollow Loop Trail, adjacent to Fish Creek Campground, the Slush Pond Horse Trail, located north of Paul Smiths on NY 30, or the Lake Clear Ponds Trail.

Ample challenge for Advanced bikers can be found on the Floodwood Loop Trail, just south of the St. Regis Canoe Area or the Deer Pond Loop Trail, located west of Upper Saranac Lake. Whiteface Mountain and Mt. Van Hoevenberg ski areas offer trails and rentals.
