Fowler's Crossing

Popular during the cold months as a cross country skiing locale, Fowler’s Crossing is nonetheless a good place to search for birds during the spring and summer as well. The railroad bed is used by the Adirondack Scenic Railroad during the summer, but the first trains do not pass through until mid-morning, giving birders a chance to take a walk and be off the tracks before the train arrives. The railroad bed itself is lined with brushy habitat which can be productive for warblers and other songbirds in migration and it is also bordered by a marsh where species like American Bittern can be found. Smaller upland trails wind birders through mixed pine and deciduous forests which are home to species like Pine Warbler, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Blue-headed Vireo.
