Osgood River

The Osgood River takes paddling birders into one of the best boreal habitats in the region.

Access to the river comes through Osgood Pond (which links up with Jones Pond), beginning the trip with an expanse of water body on the way towards White Pine Camp.

From the White Pine Camp the river’s initially wide mouth narrows to a small snaking stream which is lined with boreal forest. The warbler species are diverse like they are in so many Adirondack habitats during summer with Nashville and Magnolia Warblers dominating the conifer lined shores and Chestnut-sided Warblers singing from brushy thickets.

But the real draws to the Osgood River are the boreal species of birds which make the place home. Black-backed Woodpecker, Gray Jay, Boreal Chickadee, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and Palm Warbler are all found along the Osgood making it a premier boreal site.
