Grass Pond Trail

Winter Overview and Trail Conditions:

From the parking area continue to the left down Mountain Pond Road, which is not plowed beyond the parking area; ski down the road for about 0.2 miles to the trail on the left. Once on the trail you will have a very easy ski as the slopes are moderate at most. A slight downhill run will bring you to a crossing of the Osgood River and, very soon after, a split in the road. Take a right here to Grass Pond, left leads to Sheep Meadow which is another nice ski destination.

From here the terrain remains quite flat and easy making this the perfect ski for those first-timers. You will come to the south end of Grass Pond after 1.3 miles from the split. The trail continues to the left of the pond if you wish to explore a bit and get some additional distance in, but the trail is not maintained, is quite narrow and eventually becomes hard to follow. There is a nice lean-to just above the pond which is the perfect spot for a hot cup of cocoa.

Additional Important Information:

Skiing over a frozen body of water is a cross-country skiing past time; it can access you to areas not seen by most in the summer. With that being said it is a dangerous activity to cross frozen water bodies and should be done with care and respect for your environment. Know the ice conditions and be prepared for anything including heavy winds, snow drifts, whiteouts, slushy conditions, and thin ice.
