Adirondack Plein Air Festival
See the Adirondacks through artists' eyes!

Plein air painting - outdoors, from observation, and in natural light.

The Adirondack Plein Air Festival started in 2009. Fifty juried artists have four-and-a-half days to paint outdoors.

The Adirondack region has long been known as a wonderful, wild vacation retreat and the inspiration for numerous artists, writers, and musicians. The artists who come and take part in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival know that very well, which is what attracts them from all over the country. It's the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi, yet it's still within a day's drive of the major cities of the Northeast. There are mountains, lakes, rivers, bogs, forests, farms, and small communities — a full variety of subject matter for artists.

Not a painter? Not to worry. Spectators are encouraged to check out the creative process while enjoying the classic Adirondack surroundings.

The festival includes several events — a Nocturne Contest (painting at night), a “Paint the Town” Silent Auction, a “Quick Draw” Competition, and a Show & Sale. The Show & Sale is held on the final day, in the Harrietstown Town Hall, at 39 Main Street. There will be about 500 fresh, new paintings of the Adirondacks for sale. This is your chance to snag a one-of-a-kind piece.

Stop by the Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery, at 52 Main Street, to get more information.
