Third Thursday Art Walks
Stroll through the arts from June through September!

Cool Beginnings - Flourishing Future

The Third Thursday Art Walks - held annually from June through September - started in 1999 as a way to help revitalize downtown Saranac Lake by drawing attention to our creative community and its historic downtown. Saranac Lake revitalization efforts started in 1994 and the arts since that year have been instrumental in branding this town as an arts community. The Art Walks have played a major role in this endeavor.

One of the core advantages of the Art Walks is to bring the visual, literary, and performing arts to the community and visitors alike in a family-friendly atmosphere by having participants bring their talents on to the sidewalks to create a party atmosphere. One can hear music while viewing artwork ranging from children's pieces to amateur to the professional.

Art Walk Galleries:

  • Adirondack Artist's Guild
  • Georgeanne Gaffney's studio
  • Small Fortune Studio & Gallery
  • Mark Kurtz Photography
  • NorthWind Fine Arts
  • Art at the Pink House
  • Piece by piece Studio & Quilt Shop
  • Peter Seward Upstairs Studio
  • Cape Air Gallery
  • Spectrum Fine Art Studio
  • Pendragon Theatre
  • Bluseed Studios
In addition to our galleries, many of the downtown businesses open up their sidewalk space — and in some cases, their interiors — to exhibit artist's work including craft, photography, painting, and live performers.

History

The Saranac Lake's Third Thursday Art Walks began 19 years ago in an effort to bring the visual, performing and literary arts to the community and visitors of Saranac Lake.  On the Third Thursday of June, July, August and September from 5pm to 7:30pm there are approximately 30 outdoor venues presenting visual, literary and performing arts. Venues include village parks, art galleries, nonprofit spaces and downtown businesses of all kinds. This a free, self-guided, family event showcasing creative talents of all ages from local and regional areas. Event schedules/maps are available the day of the event ay many of the venue locations. The streets come alive with the sights and sounds of artists and performers creating an energy that is felt by all.  Don't miss the opportunity to shop before, during and after the Art Walks and experience one of our fine restaurants.
