Ledge Pond

Directions to Access Points:

From the intersection of routes 3 and 86 in Saranac Lake, follow Route 86 toward Paul Smiths. Continue for 5 miles and turn left on Route 186, follow it for 4 miles to its end at Route 30, then follow Route 30 toward Tupper Lake for 5.6 miles. Turn right on Floodwood Road and follow it for 5.1 miles to the Long Pond Trail on the right, where there is ample parking.

Shoreline Fishing:

This small pond can only be reached by a canoe or kayak into Pink Ponds, followed by a 0.6 mile portage to the shore. Shoreline fishing is about the best you will get, and that's best from the peninsula on the western shore.

Boat Access:

A boat is needed to access the foot trail, but that would also require a 0.6 mile portage to the pond. It's worth it if you have a lightweight boat.

Insider Information:

  • The path/trail is difficult to locate from Upper Pink Pond. The shoreline is very dense and you need to look for a narrow exit from the water.
  • There is one primitive campsite on the pond, located on the western shore on a peninsula.
  • The fish are small, but if you want a secluded pond, this is it.

Fish Species Types:

Bullhead, brook trout, panfish

Special Regulations:

Always follow state fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a New York state Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
