McKenzie Pond

Directions to Access Points:

From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake, follow Route 86 toward Lake Placid. Continue to Ray Brook and take a left onto McKenzie Pond Road. Follow here to the Jackrabbit Trail on the right.

Shoreline Fishing:

The only real shoreline fishing area is near the trail. Much of the shore is heavily wooded and makes casting very hard. If the water is low enough, a few small rocks just off shore could make for a nice area to cast from. Explore the shore and other possibilities may exist. Paths do navigate the shore. To reach the pond you will have to hike roughly 2-miles of the Jackrabbit Trail. For hiking the trail is not all that demanding but for carrying a kayak or canoe it would be.

Boat access:

No boat access without a long and demanding canoe carry to the shore

Fish Species Types:

Brook Trout

Special Regulations:

Always Follow State fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
