For skiers looking for some fun backcountry skiing, the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness is a great place to start. The series of small lakes and ponds that make up the wilderness are linked by a series of trails and canoe carry routes which double as great places to ski.
The main trail through the area is the Fish Pond Ski Trail which is just over five miles long from the parking area to its terminus at Fish Pond. The trails wind through largely deciduous woods and up and down hills, keeping the skiing fun and adventurous.
Fish Pond Ski Trailhead: Parking is easiest off of Fish Hatchery Road to Station Street (where skiers access the trails via the railroad tracks) which sits off Route 30, west of Lake Clear.
