Pink Ponds

Directions to Access Points:

From the intersection of state Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake, follow Route 86 toward Paul Smiths. Continue for 5 miles, turn left on Route 186, and follow it for 4 miles to its end at Route 30. Follow Route 30 toward Tupper Lake for 5.6 miles and turn right on Floodwood Road. Follow that for 5.1 miles to the Long Pond trail on the right, where there is ample parking. 

Shoreline Fishing:

This small pond can only be reached by canoe or kayak into Pink Pond, and then by following a 0.6 mile trail to the shore. Shoreline fishing is about the best you will get, and that is best from the peninsula on the western shore.  

Boat Access:

A boat is needed to access the foot trail, and then a 0.6 mile portage is required to reach the pond.

Insider Information:

  • The path is difficult to locate from Upper Pink Pond. The shoreline is very dense and you need to look for a narrow exit from the water.
  • There is one primitive campsite on the pond, located on the western shore on a peninsula.
  • The fish are small, but if you want a secluded pond, this is it.

Bullhead, brook trout, panfish

Always follow New York state fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
