Cold Weather Outdoors

By snowshoe or ski

A one-minute drive from downtown along Route 30 and you’re at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, a town-owned, family-friendly network of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails for a range of skill levels.

With a short drive, you can head to the Paul Smith’s VIC for a longer, more expansive snowshoe or cross-country skiing experience.

And of course, any of our mountains are great for a winter outing, just make sure you hit the trail prepared. On the other side of town, snowboarders and downhill skiers can hit up Mount Pisgah Recreation Center.

By ice

With so many lakes and ponds to choose from, Saranac Lake is a no-brainer for ice fishing enthusiasts. If you want to stay in town, head toward Paul Smith’s and pull over at Lake Colby, across from the hospital.

Looking to go further but don’t know your way around? Hire a licensed guide and leave the planning to someone else!
