Spitfire Lake

This lovely lake is only reached via Upper & Lower Saint Regis Lake, so it is usually uncrowded and well-sheltered by the forest and mountains surrounding it. This makes for a lovely paddle around the four miles of irregular shoreline.

Be sure to watch for eagles periodically. This is one of their favorite lakes.

Reach Spitfire through Upper Saint Regis Lake with a narrow passage on the south side, or through Lower Saint Regis Lake by paddling through a series of shallow and narrow passages on the northern end of the lake.

Launching Point:

Take Route 30 south from Malone, and just past Paul Smiths College take the right onto Keese Mill Road. At the dam there is a parking area for St. Regis Mountain on the left. The launch is a short distance back at a grassy shore, but parking there is only for unloading the boat.

Alternatively, use the Upper St Regis Lake Boat Launch on Route 30.
