Fishing in Saranac Lake
What Makes Fishing Cool in the Saranac Lake Area?

Where to Fish in Saranac Lake

Whether you're pursuing trout, landlocked salmon, or warm-water species such as bass, pike, and panfish, there's water for every kind of angler in the Saranac Lake region.

The fish are right here, literally.

Lakes, Rivers & Streams for Fishing in Saranac Lake

You don't have to look far: right through the village runs the Saranac River, an outstanding trout water that winds its way to the north and east.

And don’t overlook the sprawling, scenic Saranac Lake Chain of Upper, Middle and Lower, as well as Lake Flower (with a boat launch right in the village), Kiwassa and Oseetah lakes. Depending on what water you hit, you'll find trout, bass, northern pike and panfish in the Adirondacks – sometimes all in the same day if you include tactics for each species. Why not?!

But wait there’s more!

A few more suggestions not to miss out on:

  • Lake Clear - close to Saranac Lake and paved roads – and known to yield landlocked salmon, northern pike and lake trout.
  • Moose Pond, known for it’s scenery and more importantly - salmonids and warmwater species like bass.
  • Osgood Pond, a great location for bass, pike, and perch.
  • Black Pond, a fine brook trout water tight to Paul Smiths.
  • And the two St. Regis Lakes – Upper and Lower – known for their outstanding fishing in breathtaking surroundings.

Adirondack Backwoods Fishing

The Saranac Lake region offers, too, the kind of backwoods fishing experience visitors to the Adirondacks often envision. You can plunge into the St. Regis Canoe Area, a maze of paddling and camping opportunities on numerous ponds holding colorful – and hungry – brook trout, lake trout and splake.

Fishing Trips in the Adirondacks

You can stay at one of the region's many fine lodging properties, or base your fishing trip at a campground around Saranac Lake, such as the popular Fish Creek area.

And if you want to accelerate the learning curve on the region's fine fishing, one of our legendary Adirondack guides can help you do just that, putting you onto fish early and often and setting the stage for a great trip the rest of the time you're here.
