This easily accessible pond is a fine paddle all its own along its half mile length, but it also gives access to the much larger Osgood Pond for an expanded trip.
The southern shore has St. John's of the Wilderness Church and its cemetery. This is where famous Adirondack figures like visionary guide Appolos "Paul" Smith and cure village founder Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau are buried. The canals from Church Pond to Osgood Pond were hand dug over 100 years ago so people could paddle to church.
Trailhead: There is a hand launch right before the intersection of Routes 86 and 30, near Paul Smith's College. When arriving from Saranac Lake, the short Hoffman Road is on the right.
