Green Pond to Follensby Clear Pond

From Route 30 locate the narrow trail to the side of an old metal sign that reads, Green Pond Pubic Access. Climb the embankment and start a soft downhill to the Shore of Green Pond. Private property and a wire fence will be to your right.

The north and northeast end of the lake is private property and several camps are located along the shore. Please respect the land owner privacy and property. Feel free to explore the shores along the west and south ends of the pond. Green Pond in a very mellow body of water. There is a portage to Follensby Clear Pond at the SW corner of the pond. A short easy carry will bring you to Follensby Clear Pond at the north end.

Follensby Clear Pond is a much larger body of water and should be treated as such. The pond generates much bigger waves than would be expected. There are several camping areas along Follensby Clear Pond as well as portages to an unnamed pond to the east (Round Pond), Polliwog Pond to the west and Horseshoe Pond to the southwest. There are also several bays, peninsulas, and islands to be explored.

A second car at the boat launch for Follensby Clear Pond would make for a nice loop.

Follensby Clear Pond: Over 7-miles

Distances:

Route 30 to Green Pond: 0.15 miles

Green Pond to Follensby Clear Pond: 0.2 miles

How to get there:

From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake follow Route 86 toward Paul Smiths. Continue for 5-miles to Route 186 on the left. Follow Route 186 for 4-miles to its end at Route 30. Follow Route 30 toward Tupper Lake for around 6.0 miles to Frog Lane on the left. The carry is directly across the Road from Frog Lane. There is limited parking, so use it wisely.

Type of launch:

Narrow carry of 0.15 miles, good footing, narrow launch

Portage/Carry Details:

The carry from route 30 is easy to follow once found. There is a slight up onto the embankment than a soft descent to Shore of Green Pond.

Carry to Follensby Clear Pond is mostly flat with decent footing.

Type of water:

Green Pond:

Well sheltered, calm and flat.

Follensby Clear Pond:

Sheltered but is a large pond that can create larger waves.
