Little Colby Pond

This pond is an extension of Lake Colby, divided by the railroad tracks. The only access point is via Lake Colby or a narrow launch off Forest Home Road. The initial area is shallow with lily pads and is an attractive narrow approach to the southern widest point, which is officially Little Colby Pond. The edges are lined with marshland grasses and are great for birding, bass fishing and relaxing. The pond is quite small but makes for a great paddle when combined with Lake Colby. More narrows separate the two bodies of water.

To access Lake Colby you will need to paddle under the small bridge for which the railroad tracks travel, this is located on west side of the north shore.

Shoreline length: Approx. 1.75 miles, it is hard to delineate with so much marshland around the edges. This measurement is based on using the railroad tracks as a northern boundary.

How to get there: From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake follow Route 3 toward Tupper Lake. Continue for under a mile to Edgewood Road on the right. Follow here for about 0.4 miles to Forest Home Road on the left. The inlet is a couple hundred feet up on the right.

Type of launch: Roadside, less than 100 feet

Type of water: Flat and calm under most conditions
