Middle Pond

Middle Pond is much longer than it is wide and parallels Floodwood Road for about 1-mile. There are two distinct launching areas, at the east end of the pond and one closer to the middle off Floodwood Road.

Parking is much more limited from the middle launch.

On a nice sunny day painted turtles and snapping turtles can be seen sunning on floating logs and large boulders sitting along the shore. Also, due to its 1-mile length this pond is a favorite for local loons. The water in most cases is very calm due to it being well-sheltered along its tree shoreline so it is an excellent choice for any type of kayak, canoe or SUP.

There is a carry on the southwest side of the pond that leads back to Floodwood Pond, if the idea so suits you. It could make for a nice traverse if a second car is spotted at the Rollins Pond State Campground.

Approximate Shoreline Length: Middle Pond: 2.25 miles

Follow Route 186 for 4.0 miles to its end at Route 30. Follow Route 30 toward Tupper Lake for around 5.6 miles to Floodwood Road on the right. Follow Floodwood Road for 2.3 miles to the pond on the left.
