Middle Saranac Lake

Middle Saranac Lake can be best accessed from two distinct points, but it can also be accessed by paddling from Lower or Upper Saranac Lakes in the Adirondacks. Weller Pond and Little Weller Pond can also be accessed from Middle Saranac Lake and are known to be two of the more attractive ponds in the region. Take time to explore the many bays and channels that the lake has to offer and feel free to check out the many small islands that dot huge body of water.

How to get there:

Route 3 Launch – South Creek: From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake follow Route 3 toward Tupper Lake. Continue for around 10 miles to the South Creek Fishing Access Site on the left.

Bartletts Carry: Continue about 1-mile further on Route 3 to Bartlett Carry Road. Drive up Bartlett Carry Road for around 1-mile to the carry trail on the right. Be sure to park in designated areas only.

Type of launch:

South Creek: Less than 100 feet to a dock on the creek

Bartlett Carry: Short carry of less than a quarter mile. Foot trail with various footing conditions, but overall good.

Type of water:
This is a very large lake with almost no protection from the elements or windy conditions. While on some days it can be very calm, other days it can whip up some decent sized whitecaps. The conditions are a bit more favorable around the islands and can be used as sheltered paddling as needed. Always be on the lookout for motorboats, they can be abundant.
