PRESS RELEASE

Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Task Force

Successful in Helping Increase Adirondack Regional Airport Enplanments

SARANAC LAKE (NY) – The efforts Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s Airport Marketing Task Force helped the Adirondack Regional Airport register a significant increase in passengers on its commercial flights.

Thanks to the marketing efforts of the Committee, the Adirondack Regional Airport’s commercial flights registered a 40 percent enplanment increase in January 2007 versus the same period last year and a 75 percent increase in February 2007, compared to February 2006.

“This is due largely to a discounted round-trip fare offered by CommutAir, Continental Airlines’ regional carrier that is based out of Plattsburgh,” said Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Sylvie Nelson.  “Travelers can fly from Saranac Lake to Albany and back for $78 and when you take into consideration the price of gas, the time and also parking – which is free at the Adirondack Regional Airport – this makes for a great deal.”

The Committee helped market the discount throughout the region so that people would consider leaving out of the Adirondack Regional Airport when planning their business or leisure travels.

“We worked on getting the word out and we were very successful at it,” Nelson said.  “When we found out how much percentage enplanments had increased, we could not believe it!”

The discounted fare is available until March 31, 2007 but can be used for travel in the summer.

“People interested in flying out of the Adirondack Regional Airport this summer and who want to take advantage of the discounted fare need to make their purchase before March 31,” Nelson said.   The Committee does not know at this time what the new fare will be, once the promotion is discontinued.
