For a long time, Loon Lake Mountain was closed to the public and only accessible via a bushwhack, but now it’s open and there is a nice trail that is maintained by the DEC.

The trail starts out following an old forest road before it becomes a foot trail beneath you. The grade is never too steep, making for an excellent family outing.

The fire tower is not open to the cab at this time, but it is being scheduled for restoration. The views from the summit rock are outstanding, and hikers can explore around the summit for additional views of the area.

How do I get there?

Follow Route 30 south out of Malone and drive CR 26 on the left. Follow CR 26 to the trailhead for Lon Lake Mountain on the right, across from Duck Pond
