Paddlers from across the northeastern United States and eastern Canada will converge on Saranac Lake May 16th, 2004 for the 10.5 mile canoe, kayak and guideboat races around Dewey Mountain.

The race is the second in the Adirondack Canoe Race Series of events organized cooperatively between the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, The Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce and MAC'S Canoe Livery. Adirondack Series sponsors include The Blue Moon Café, and Grasse River Boatworks.

The race begins at 11 AM at the Ampersand Bay Resort on Lower Saranac Lake. Parking is limited. MAC'S will provide pre race shuttles for participants to park their cars at the finish line.

Paddlers will leave Ampersand Bay in waves according to the type of boat they are racing in. The course takes people up Lower Saranac Lake to the mouth of the Saranac River in front of Bluff Island. Participants will go through First and Second Ponds, go down the Saranac River, carry around the Lower Locks, paddle across Oseetah Lake to the finish line in the park in the Village of Saranac Lake.

The 2004 'Round the Mountain race has been selected as a New York Marathon Canoe Race Association Points Series Race. NYMCRA members from across New York will be competing for honors on the 10.5 mile course. The race is open to all solo and tandem canoes, guideboats, and kayaks. All participants must have a life jacket in the boat during the race.

The entry fee is $15.00 per person. Pre registration is appreciated and can be accomplished by stopping by the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Registration will take place from 9 - 10:30 AM the day of the race. Awards will be presented in the park as soon as they are tabulated. Hot and Cold beverages will be provided by the Blue Moon Cafe at the finish line.
