| The Sister Cities Association of Saranac Lake, New York, Inc. was formed to cause the people of the Village of Saranac lake and the people of similar cities of foreign nations to acquire a consciousness of each other. Also to foster a relationship of mutual concern between the people of the Village of Saranac Lake and other similar cities.

STE-AGATHE-DES-MONTS
Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, Canada is a town similar in many ways to our
Saranac Lake. It also was a tuberculosis treatment centre during the first
half of the 20th century while doing double duty as the country centre for a
large recreational playground, in their case the Laurentian mountains north
of Montreal. It was reached originally by rail and today can be reached by
an excellent highway system shown on the website www.sainte-agathe.org
It sits on the shore of Lac des Sables (Sandy Lake) a name that may well come from the Algonquin "Mittawang" meaning "sandy shore". This lake boasts public beaches, motoring, a tour boat and the homes of many famous Canadians (and some Americans).
