St. Regis Mountain

From the trailhead you will have to walk up the dirt road for a short distance to the foot trail on the right, wait to put your snowshoes on at the trailhead if you wish. The trail starts off very moderately over rolling hills. The gentle trail is inviting as you gain elevation steadily. It won’t be long before you will be passing by the secondary trail to Upper Saint Regis Lake, but it is very easy to miss, especially in winter; only a small sign marks the location. The trail will then get slightly steeper gaining elevation a bit faster and then a steep section further up that gets you high much faster. Atop the steep section the trail levels off slightly as you approach the summit. The views from ground level along the rocky top are fantastic with several frozen lakes below. The fire tower is still in poor condition with the lower sections of the staircase removed for safety. It is not advised or recommended to climb the fire tower until it has been restored to safer conditions.
