Saranac Lake's elevation (1600 feet above sea level) and location in the Adirondack Park combine to produce the clear (mountain air that was the basis for the village's success as a tuberculosis cure center; that same quality remains today.

While the weather in the Adirondacks can be variable, the area historically has not been subjected to the devastation of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes that plague some areas of our country.

The Saranac Lake Region has four different seasons: winters marked by consistent snowfall and clear, crisp, cold days; summers are warm and pleasant, with temperatures rarely over 90 degrees and comfort- able evenings with low humidity. In spring and fall, the days are warm and the evenings cool, adding to the pleasure of each season - Spring with its inspirational blooming and Autumn with its awe-inspiring display of brilliant foliage. The average summer temperature is 75 F (24 C) and the average low is 50F (10 C); winter's average high is 27 F (-3 C) and the average low is 5 F (-15 C). The annual precipitation is 39 inches, keeping our forests green, our lakes and streams replenished and providing the base for our abundance of outdoor activities.
