About Louisa Austin Wright
I am a sixth generation Long Lake native, and I love being an Adirondacker. My ancestors were guideboat builders, builders, and craftsmen. My 3rd great grandfather was carried as a baby in a pack basket through the woods to Long Lake by his father. It's a near feeling o be treading the same ground as my family before.
Over time I realized that my gifts and passions were much the same as my ancestors. I've been an artist and instructor for about 35 years. I am a mixed-media artist, which allows me the freedom to create whatever medium I'm in the mood for.
The woods and waters are my inspiration, my palce of worship and peace. Foraging is a passion of mine. There is a storehouse of natural materials that find their way into my sculptures, encaustic, jewlery, and new favorite, eco-printing. ONce when out walking wiht my daughter Lydia, I discovered some beautiful leaves and began gathering excitedly. After a few minutes Lydia cried, "Mom, it's like walking with a toddler!"
Well, I may never grow up, but I'm okay with that. Just let me create and spend time with the Creator!
