The Women's Civic Chamber was founded in 1955 by five women who felt they could do more for their community. These women met daily to discuss the possibility of such an organization. In March of 1955, they invited all women of Saranac Lake to join them. From this, Women's Civic Chamber was chartered by the State of New York as a non-profit organization. Today, the Women’s Civic Chamber (WCC) continues its mission by fundraising, volunteering for community events, and donating to local nonprofit groups and programs. We invite you to join our organization. Meetings are held the third Monday of each month, September through June, at 6:00pm. During the pandemic, we are meeting at the Harrietstown Town Hall. Bring your mask and plan on social distancing.
The early years saw the Women’s Civic Chamber: assisting civic defense with plane spotters on the roof of the Hotel Saranac; promoting youth welfare through the Fresh Air Fund, babysitting classes, and a Fourth of July Kiddie Parade; and, supporting community events like Homecoming Weekend, Winter Carnival, the Village Clean-up and sponsoring parade floats and bands.
Today, we host the Winter Carnival Coronation, sponsor the Olympic Parade, and continue to organize the Kiddie Parade, volunteer at the Village Clean-up, and many events.
Our newest fundraiser is a 50/50 Raffle. $25 per ticket. Only 350 tickets will be sold. 1st prize: $2,000 2nd prize: $1,000 3rd prize: $500

The Women’s Civic Chamber’s fundraisers make it possible for us to support a High School Senior Scholarship Award and a Middle School Essay Contest each year. Our ‘micro-grants’ support nonprofits and community programs such as the Youth Center, Skate Park, After Prom Party, High Peaks Hospice, Saranac Lake Free Library, Dewey Mountain, Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Holiday Helpers, and Winter Carnival. We’re proud to say that since 2009, we’ve gifted more than $43,000 back to the community of Saranac Lake and touched the lives of each of its residents in some way.
