Lake Clear Trail

This is an excellent short hike in the woods, perfect for the entire family. It follows a peninsula that separates Lake Clear and the outlet. This is an excellent hike for a relaxing Adirondack-style picnic or rest on the lake.

Trailhead: From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake follow Route 86 toward Paul Smiths. Continue to Route 186 on the left and follow here. Route 186 will become Route 30; continue straight onto Route 30 for 1.6 miles to a bridge over Lake Clear Outlet, park here.

Description: The path is on the east side of the bridge, while not marked it is very easy to locate. The path will climb the embankment and cross the railroad tracks before entering the woods on the opposite side. The trail is rather short and follows along the top of a peninsula with Lake Clear Outlet on your left and Lake Clear on your right. There are several opportunities to reach either shore to take in the views. The Outlet will open up opportunities for wildflowers while the vista out over Lake Clear is quite impressive.

Distances: 0.25 miles, one way

Family with Young Kids: 10 minutes to end of path
Experienced Hiker: 10 minutes to end of path
Out of Shape Hiker: 10 minutes to end of path

Winter Climbing: While not a winter destination hike, it could be easily used as such. Parking would be the issue for winter use, it would need to be road side which could be a hazard.
