Abstract Mechanisms: Assemblages by Anastasia Osolin
About
Anastasia Osolin will be the featured artist at the Adirondack Artists Guild in October.
“Abstract Mechanisms” is an exhibit of found-object assemblages that resemble imaginary devices cobbled together from spare parts, as if to serve some obscure but highly particular purpose that can only be guessed at.
Anastasia’s sculptures are made with manufactured objects that have become detached from their original functions through disuse, breakage, obsolescence, or decay. She is especially drawn to items that have been around long enough for metal to oxidize, for wood to grow scarred and stained, for paint to chip, edges to soften, moving parts to break, and the various hands that have held them to leave their impressions. The corrosion and patina wrought by time and the elements often reveal new layers of beauty and a certain pathos in ordinary objects no longer deemed useful.
The Guild will host an opening reception on Friday, October 2nd from 5 -7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The show will be up from October 2nd - November 3rd.
Anastasia will offer a gallery talk on Sunday, October 25th at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
