Experience a day downtown!

Downtown Saranac Lake is where the village’s cool Adirondack appeal is on full display. Our picturesque downtown has small town charm with plenty to see and do, all surrounded by scenic mountains and lakes. There is something here for a variety of tastes, so whether you're an art lover, a devoted shopper, or a foodie, Saranac Lake's downtown has you covered. Saranac Lake is famous for its refreshing air and laid-back fun. Hike a mountain right from downtown, or hop in a kayak in the Saranac River, which winds through the village. Nearby there are great nature walks, spots to fish, and mountain biking trails. Inside, ADK ArtRise and the Adirondack Carousel are family-friendly favorites for fun activities.

Explore unique culture and more

Saranac Lake loves art. Numerous galleries offer a glimpse of the local art scene all year. Local art and photography galleries can be found throughout the village, so pick up a scenic photo or a landscape oil painting - a perfect way to take in the beauty of the Adirondacks in your own home.

Saranac Lake’s downtown is rich with history from its former days as an international treatment center for tuberculosis to its notable vacationers. Connect to the backcountry and downtowns of the Adirondacks with the 34-mile, multi-use Adirondack Rail Trail, with access points all across town. Stop in the Saranac Laboratory Museum to see its permanent and rotating exhibits on this village’s fascinating history. The gift shop there is extra cool, too!

Temporary downtown construction

Our Main Street is undergoing some updates, and construction has begun. But don't worry, our downtown shops and parking are still open and ready to welcome you!

Despite the construction, you can still enjoy all the vibrant energy and unique offerings that our downtown area has to offer. Support local businesses and explore the charm of Saranac Lake while the improvements take place.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we enhance our beloved Main Street!
