The Adirondack Artists Guild presents "Whiteface Inspired": paintings by Suzanne Langelier-Lebeda.
Whiteface Mountain has long held a special place in artist Suzanne Langelier-Lebeda’s imagination. In “Whiteface Inspired,” Suzanne explores the enduring connection she feels for this legendary skiing destination. Rather than attempting to document Whiteface literally, she is interested in translating the energy of the mountain as well as the freedom, movement, and sense of wonder she experienced as a young skier and continues to feel today. The trails, like calligraphic strokes across the landscape, are fluid, expressive marks alive with motion and beauty. The contours of the slopes, the exposed rockslides, shifting light, and expansive atmosphere became sources of inspiration for the watercolors and sketchbook drawings in “Whiteface Inspired.” They are also an expression of how memory transforms landscape.
Whiteface remains a physical mountain, but in Langelier-Lebeda’s artwork it becomes something more personal: a landscape of atmosphere, movement, and memory.
“Whiteface Inspired” will run from September 4th through 29th, with an opening reception on Friday, September 4th from 5-7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
