Sumner Brook

Sumner Brook in Bloomingdale is stocked annually with hundreds of brook trout. Take your pick of one of the two access points on the Oregon Plains Road and enjoy the solitude.

How to get there

From downtown Saranac Lake, take Bloomingdale Avenue to Route 3 and follow Route 3 for 7 miles. At the four corners in Bloomingdale, continue straight onto State Street. At the end of State Street, veer right onto Oregon Plains Road.

Brook trout season opens April 1 to October 15 and has a daily limit of five, any size. The beautiful "brookie" is the state fish of New York. And fishing for brookies in remote waters is a classic Adirondack experience. Please be sure to always follow State fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
