McKenzie Pond Trail

Fine scenery awaits at the end of this 2 mile trail to McKenzie Pond, on the west side of the 36,200 acre McKenzie Mountain Wilderness Area. White Pine Island is an arresting focal point, so named for the giant white pine.
This trail is mostly flat, but there are a few slightly steep sections. It's well marked and easy to follow, though the high percentage of rocks and roots can be challenging for the short legs of the pre-school set. There are bridges on the stream crossings.
Trailhead: From the intersection of Brandy Brook (left on Route 86 as it enters Saranac Lake) and Pine Street, cross the railroad tracks to the right and head east on McKenzie Pond Road. At 1.1 mile down there is a parking area for the Jackrabbit Trail on the left, marked with a trail sign. Park here.
