December 22, 2021

Join us in Saranac Lake as we say goodbye to 2021 and welcome 2022. With activities planned all over town, there is sure to be something for everyone!

Dazzling display of fireworks

The community will be ringing in the New Year with an 8 p.m. fireworks display over Lake Flower, which is sure to be the highlight of the evening! The spectacular display will be set off at the Lake Flower boat launch on River Street, and best viewed from Riverside Park, or across the street from the boat launch on the River Street sidewalks (in front of Lakeview Deli and Fusion Market). Celebrate the New Year with your family and friends as the winter skies are lit up with colors and light! Outdoors, and socially distanced, this is the perfect family-friendly event, or a great way to get your celebration started!

Please note, this event is subject to change. The village reserves the right to cancel this display pending any change in the conditions surrounding COVID-19 in the region. You can find updates on this event at the village website.

How to spend the last day of 2021

From yoga to spas, or outdoor events, where will you spend your last day of 2021? With plenty of daytime options, you don’t have to worry about planning. Try one of these activities!

Children cross-country ski on a snowy, sunny wooded trail

Inner Quest Yoga is teaming up with Paul Smith's College VIC to offer Holiday Yoga from 9:15 - 10:30 a.m. at the beautiful Great Room on the VIC’s property. Slow down and unwind after this year's whirlwind of changes. Come share the joy and uplift your spirit with movement and stillness inside and outside. Practice stretching and slow-moving yoga postures for increased flexibility and mobility, meditation and reflection to soothe your mind. Then after class, if you wish, hit the trails and you’ll receive a discount on a day pass and equipment rentals.

Skiing or snowshoeing the VIC is a great way to bring your year to an end, while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Adirondacks. With 40K of groomed and maintained trails for classic skiers and snowshoers with a full range of ski trail difficulties and lengths through the woods, past ponds and over mountains, plus an indoor space to get you geared up for your winter adventure, it is the perfect place to hit the trails! Rental equipment for skiing and snowshoeing is available.

Maybe you’re looking to relax, in which case Hotel Saranac’s Ampersand Spa offers a wide variety of spa treatments, including their Winter Wellness Package for two, that can be enjoyed with a loved one or dear friend. It includes a side-by-side massage and your choice of a glass of wine or local craft beer after the treatment. Holidays are a time to connect with those around you, so what better treatment to share your time together?

Family-friendly festivities

If you are looking for something to do with your family before the Saranac Lake New Years Eve Fireworks Display kicks off, look no further!

Light Up the Town is the perfect family-friendly outing! Enjoy the magnificent lights throughout Saranac Lake and surrounding areas by foot, or in the comfort of your warm car. Walk (or drive) the streets of downtown Saranac Lake and through the surrounding neighborhoods to vote on your favorite holiday decoration display. There are also fun challenges to partake in, like the scavenger hunt and selfie challenge. Fill out a voting form and hit the town! This event is ongoing from December 15 through January 1.

Time together with family is a special occasion, so if you are looking to capture these memories, take advantage of Saranac Waterfront Lodge’s Festive Mini Photo Sessions! With so many picturesque places on the property, you’ll have no shortage of photoshoot locations for you and your loved ones.

Celebratory dining experiences

There is no shortage of dining in Saranac Lake, with everything from casual cafes to upscale experiences. New Year's Eve will be no exception for good eating!

Saranac Waterfront Lodge is offering a New Year's Eve Dinner at the Boathouse with a decadently prepared three course prix fixe menu, and extended hours at the bar. Dinner reservations are requested, so call ahead to reserve your table.

Hotel Saranac’s Chef Mike has curated three courses to enjoy, while the bar team has complimented it with a wine pairing add-on. Campfire will also be open for extended breakfast hours the next morning for all your mimosa and pancake needs! Open from 6:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., New Year's brunch is always a good plan.

Live Music

If you're looking to move your feet and swing to the beat, check out Saranac Lake's music scene!

The Waterhole is Saranac Lake’s premier music venue and a great place to get your body moving to the music this New Year's! Celebrate at their New Year's Eve Bash featuring Raisinhead (a crowd favorite) with special guest Glass Pony on the 3rd floor music stage and bar, or enjoy drinks downstairs at the main bar and outside patio.

Hotel Saranac will be celebrating New Year's with live music in the Great Hall Bar for continued festivities. Local Musician Phillip DuMond will be kicking the night off from 7 - 10 p.m., with local band Fulton's Folly rocking into the New Year 10 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.! The Great Hall Bar will be open to the public 3 p.m. - 1 a.m., with a complimentary bubbly toast for all that choose to countdown at midnight, and outdoor heaters on the patio.

Party Places

In addition to the live music and festivities, there will be celebrations all across town at bars and restaurants. Find your favorite, and join in on the fun!

Grizle T’s is right across the street from the Waterhole, and is a great place to grab a bite to eat, and celebrate with a complimentary champagne toast, or one of the great craft beers they have on tap!

Bitters & Bones is another great place to grab a bite, then keep the celebration going with a lively bar and no shortage of fun!

Wherever you end up this New Years Eve, be sure to stay safe, and drive responsibly.
