About

Adirondack Pollinator Festival

Join AdkAction for a free, family-friendly celebration of pollinators and native plants at our Adirondack Pollinator Festival & Native Plant Sale. This event brings together gardeners, conservationists, families, and community partners to support pollinator habitat and learn how native plants can make a difference in your backyard and beyond.

The festival runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the native plant sale continues until 2:00 PM or until sold out. Over 2,000 pesticide-free native plants are being grown in the Uihlein Greenhouse just for this event.

Festival Highlights

  • Native plant sale with over 2,000 neonicotinoid-free plants grown locally by volunteers and staff

  • Educational workshops on native plants and sustainable landscaping

  • Hands-on kids’ activities

  • Pollinator scavenger hunt for children – the first 50 kids to complete it will receive wearable butterfly wings

  • Informational tables from local organizations involved in pollinator and habitat conservation

  • Incredible panoramic views of the High Peaks from the greenhouse

Make a day of it: Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the stunning mountain views, take a walk on a grasslands path to observe the pollinators and birds of the Adirondacks.

Schedule of Events

  • 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Native Plant Sale featuring pollinator-friendly flowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Free Family Activities & Pollinator Crafts including a native plant scavenger hunt for kids. The first 30 children to complete the scavenger hunt will receive a pair of wearable butterfly wings to take home.

  • 9:00 a.m. until supplies run out: Build Your Own “Mosquito Bucket of Doom” ($5 suggested donation for supplies). This DIY mosquito trap uses stagnant water to attract mosquitoes while a biological larvicide safely eliminates larvae without harming pollinators, birds, or other wildlife.

  • 9:00 a.m.: Community Plant Swap Table. Gardeners are encouraged to bring plants to share from their own gardens as part of a community-wide effort to support habitat and neighborly exchange. Participants are asked not to bring invasive species or pesticide-treated plants. Labels will be available onsite.

  • 10:00 & 10:30 a.m.: Educational Workshops, Habits Create Habitat: Developing a Pollinator Mindset & De-Lawning: Lawn Alternatives for Biodiversity led by Adirondack Pollinator Project’s Lisa Salamon (free)

  • 11:00 a.m.: Greenhouse & Nursery Tour hosted by Ausable Freshwater Center (free)

  • 12:00 p.m.: Lake Placid Tree Board Poster Awards and free seedling giveaway throughout the morning!

What else can I do at the festival?

  • Bring a picnic and enjoy a stunning view of the high peaks from trails and meadows surrounding a historic greenhouse!

  • Gardening experts will be on hand to answer your questions about planting and caring for your pollinator habitat.

  • Kids can take home free wildflower seed packets, participate in themed craft and activity stations to learn about pollination, complete a pollinator scavenger hunt challenge, and get their faces painted with flowers, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.

  • Join in free grassland walks and workshops

  • Learn about composting to restore Adirondack soils, and how to use compost in your pollinator garden.
