Waterway Work Trips with Northern Forest Canoe Trail
Join fellow paddlers and the roving stewardship crew of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail for a series of meaningful work trips along some of the most scenic waterways in New York.
June 21-23: Lower Locks Carry, NY
- Location: Saranac River’s Lower Locks Carry Trail, leading into Oseetah Lake, NY
- Tasks: Replace timber steps, signage, and level a steep and slippery section of the trail.
- Description: Enjoy the beauty of Oseetah Lake while contributing to the maintenance of its surrounding trails.
June 29-July 1: Valcour Island Campsites, NY
- Location: Valcour Island, Lake Champlain, NY
- Tasks: Complete critical maintenance at campsites and footpaths, primarily replacing a rotting boardwalk.
- Description: Help preserve the scenic and historic Valcour Island on Lake Champlain.
July 5-7: Five Fauls Lean-to, NY
- Location: NFCT Five Fauls Lean-to, Saranac River, downstream of Saranac Lake, NY
- Tasks: Replace bog bridging and construct a floating dock.
- Description: Contribute to enhancing the infrastructure along the Saranac River while enjoying paddling and exploration.
Trip Details:
- Meals: A small fee covers all meals, including Friday dinner, Saturday meals, and Sunday breakfast.
- Schedule: Trips begin Friday evening (Thursday for Allagash trips) and conclude after lunch on Sunday, allowing time for paddling, exploration, and relaxation.
