The Lady in the Lake

About

Join ACW for the first reading of Lake Placid native Sophie Morelli’s debut collection of poems, Fathom, and an open mic where anyone can share up to five minutes of their own writing (bonus points if you make it spooky!).

Morelli’s new collection of poems is based on Lake Placid’s well-known ghost story, “the Lady in the Lake.” For those who are not familiar, in 1933, Mabel Smith Douglass took a row boat across Lake Placid and never returned. Thirty years later, almost to the day, local divers discovered her body perfectly preserved one hundred feet below the surface of the water. Morelli’s poems are about not only Mabel Smith Douglass's death, but also her life.
