Boreal Mosses

About

Boreal Mosses

May 18 @ 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

$45.00

Mosses in the Boreal Forest have an outsize influence on its ecology. This introductory field class will introduce participants to the more prominent mosses and their ecology along the VIC Boreal Life Trail. What we see and learn will hopefully serve as a foundation for one’s future bryophyte investigations or just enhance one’s appreciation of the Boreal forest biology in full view at the VIC. We will rely heavily on resources developed by Jerry Jenkins and Sue Williams to guide the experience. A copy of the Ecological Guide Mosses & Common Liverworts of the Northeast will be included with the program.

Bring a hand lens of 10x power or with special arrangement you may borrow one. We will rely on ID using features visible by hand lens, as opposed to microscope work. A field journal or notebook is recommended for sketching out some moss maps and other notes.
