A summer of fun in Saranac Lake
Saranac Lake is a summer haven where the Adirondack spirit meets small-town charm. Whether you're paddling through serene waters, dancing to live tunes, or savoring a meal with a view, this village offers endless ways to soak up the season. Here are 5 of the best ways we think you’ll enjoy summer in Saranac Lake.

1. Paddle wild (and close to town) waters
Saranac Lake is a renowned paddler’s paradise, with ponds just paces away from downtown or intricate routes that require preparation, skill, and planning. If you’re new to paddling, renting right in town from places like St. Regis Canoe Outfitters or Adirondack Lakes and Trails, and even doing a guided trip with them, would undoubtedly draw you into the pastime. You can even walk right from Adirondack Lakes and Trails to Lake Flower, put in your kayak or canoe, and have yourself an adventure in literal seconds. The same goes for St. Regis Canoe Outfitters and the Saranac River!
Sticking around Saranac Lake a bit longer and have some paddling experience under your belt? The always-classic trip that is the Floodwood Loop cannot be overlooked. Multiple ponds, hiking options, and the possibility of camping make this loop a favorite, even among local guides.
Out on the water on a hot day? Take a swim while you’re paddling!

2. Dance all day and night
Saranac Lake's music scene is alive with the sounds of fiddles, guitars, and keyboards. The Waterhole Music Lounge hosts the popular "Party on the Patio" every Thursday evening, featuring free outdoor concerts on its multi-tiered patio. It’s a local favorite you’ll want to keep coming back to. "Music on the Green" brings diverse genres like alt-folk and roots reggae to Riverside Park on Wednesday nights, offering a family-friendly atmosphere. Hotel Saranac's Downtown Music Series is a unique event happening on Fridays, with outdoor shows at Berkeley Green followed by another one inside at The Great Hall Bar, including open mic nights for aspiring musicians. If you’re looking for an uber-local experience, head to The Garagery for one of the newer regular music events in Saranac Lake, The Hootenany! In an intimate setting, featured artists start the night, followed by an open mic where creativity lets loose. Don’t miss the Hoot!

3. Grab food and drinks outdoors
Savor the flavors of Saranac Lake at eateries that combine delicious food with scenic settings. RiverTrail Beerworks offers riverfront dining along the Saranac River Walk, with fire pits and easy access for walking back to Main Street. Speaking of which, there’s plenty of patio space at restaurants along Main Street. Grizle T's features a spacious back deck overlooking the river, perfect for enjoying a summer drink, and Bitters & Bones is known for its amazing menu, just as much as its variety of outdoor decks for dining. Whether you're in the mood for craft beer, comfort food, or creative cocktails, these establishments provide the perfect setting to unwind and savor the season, all while close to live music options!

4. Tackle the Saranac Lake 6er Hiking Challenge
Six local peaks: Baker, McKenzie, Haystack, Scarface, Ampersand, and St. Regis Mountain. Each of these summits surrounding Saranac Lake has its own draw. For Baker, it's the proximity to town. For Ampersand, it’s the stunning views from the open summit. For St. Regis, it’s the historic tower. I could go on and on, but maybe you’ll just have to discover the other mountains’ qualities for yourself! I will say, there is a fantastic spot to swim if you decide to hike Haystack or McKenzie from McKenzie Pond.
Complete all six to earn a commemorative patch and the honor of ringing the 6er Bell in Berkeley Green. While you’re out there hiking these peaks, be mindful of the ecosystem and practice Leave No Trace ethics!

5. Explore a few local attractions
Discover the charm of Saranac Lake through its distinctive attractions—some perfect for a rainy day, while others offer time in nature. Connect with nature and learn about the area’s favorite bird at the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation. Then, head outside to try and hear one at the Paul Smith's College Visitor Interpretive Center, where you can hike the extensive trail network, sign up for a workshop, and visit the butterfly house. If you’re interested in learning about the history of Saranac Lake, then check out the unique Saranac Laboratory Museum!
These attractions provide engaging experiences that celebrate the region's culture, history, and natural beauty.

Bonus: Take on the Saranac Lake Paddling Challenge
Here's another challenge that’ll get you outdoors and experiencing the Adirondack landscape! Launched in 2023, the Saranac Lake Paddling Challenge invites enthusiasts to complete five scenic routes, including South Creek to Second Pond and the Follensby Clear Pond Loop. Participants who finish all five routes receive an official patch, celebrating their exploration of the area's waterways. For those adventurers who complete all five paddles within two days, an exclusive Ultra Patch awaits.

Whether you're seeking adventure, culture, or relaxation, a stay in Saranac Lake offers a summer experience like no other. Dive in and make a splash!
